Kennesaw State University (KSU) is a public university in Georgia located on a 342-acre campus in Cobb County near Kennesaw Mountain. KSU is within easy driving distance from Atlanta, Georgia. KSU offers 80 academic programs at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree levels. Its undergraduate programs include health, business, education, the humanities, arts, sciences and mathematics. Graduate programs include nursing, business, information systems, public administration, conflict management, education and professional writing.
The KSU nursing program is highly ranked, and the largest nursing program in Georgia. The KSU College of Education is one of the largest teacher-preparation programs in the state. The Executive MBA program at KSU has been recognized by "CEO Magazine" as one of the best in the world. The university as a whole was recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of America's Best College's in its region.
Several of KSU's programs have been recognized for excellence, including its "First Year Experience" program. A new program at KSU that is gaining in popularity is its "Get Global" initiative, which increases opportunities for international learning experiences, helping students gain global perspectives and develop intercultural skills.
Evening, weekend and online programs are available for busy professionals seeking academic and career advancement. The College of Continuing and Professional Education offers a range of professional and personal enrichment courses. Senior Adults may take lifelong learning courses through the Golden University Program with the Continuing Education college.
History
Kennesaw State University was founded in 1963 as "Kennesaw Junior College." There were 1,000 students enrolled that year. In 1976, the college became a four-year institution. It was renamed as "Kennesaw College" in 1977. As its curriculum and degree programs expanded, the college was renamed again. It became "Kennesaw State University in 1996.
Academics
The academic calendar for Kennesaw State University follows the semester format, with fall, spring and summer semesters. There are both 4-week an6-week sessions available within the summer semesters.

Student Life
KSU students have many opportunities to get involved in campus life beyond the classroom. There are more than 150 student clubs and organizations available on the KSU campus, including such interests as student government, honor societies, student-run publications, intramural sports, and sororities and fraternities.
On-campus living is available at four communities: University Village, University Village Suites, University Place and KSU Place. These on-campus communities cover a range of housing options.

Traditions
The school colors for Kennesaw State University are yellow and black. The school mascot is the owl, and the athletic teams are nicknamed the KSU "Owls."
Athletics
The Kennesaw State "Owls" athletic teams were reclassified to the NCAA Division 1 in 2009, competing in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The award-winning "Owls" compete in several intercollegiate sports, including:

KSU is committed to civic engagement. Among many programs, its Holocaust Education Program offers three exhibitions open to the public in partnership with the Atlanta History Center.
