About

Morehouse College, located in Atlanta, Georgia, is a historically African-American institute for men. The school was founded in 1867 by Baptist minister and cabinet maker William Jefferson White. The school originally known as the Augusta Institute, but as the school changed location over the year, so did its name. In 1913 the school received its current name which was given in honor of Dr. Henry L. Morehouse, an organizer of support for the college. The school is known for some of its notable alumni, including Dr. Martin Luther King, Director Spike Lee, and Atlanta's first black mayor Maynard Jackson. The school provides a quality liberal arts education to young black men, with a focus on civility, compassion, integrity and understanding, and has done so since its inception.

Academics

Morehouse College provides a liberal arts education and upon graduating students are awarded a bachelors degree. Morehouse College offers 26 majors, allowing the school to focus on providing quality instruction in the fields covered.  Students who attend Morehouse College will have access to one of the finest educations available in the United States.

Programs offered include:

Admissions and Financial Aid

Students wishing to enroll at Morehouse College will be reviewed by the admissions board and accepted or denied based on the strength of their application. Morehouse College reviews students based on academic performance, test scores, recommendations and essay, as well as reviewing the students circumstances and extracurricular activities.

Though all accepted students may apply for financial aid, the amount of aid available is limited and will distributed to those who have the greatest need for financial aid. As per nationally accepted practices, a student's education is primarily the responsibility of his parents and as such there is no guarantee of receiving financial aid.

Athletics

The Morehouse Maroon Tigers participate in the NCAA Division II and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
