History
Founded by the Sisters of St. Francis in 1918 as Mount St. Clare College, it became the Franciscan University in 2002, and Ashford University in 2005. Ashford University continues its original mission to provide affordable but innovative education to adult learners.
Academics

The University also offers a May Term that runs for 3 weeks. Additionally, there is a 6-week Summer Term that runs from the end of May until the beginning of July.
Ashford University's online programs classes run continuously, rather than in semesters. You can take one course at a time in sequence. As soon as you complete a course, you move to the next course without a break. You can enroll and begin your course sequence in a degree program anytime.
