About
Western Nebraska Community College, located in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, was established in 1926 when it was known as Scottsbluff Junior College. The school was closed temporarily after its first year, resuming operation in 1929 through its adoption by the Scottsbluff Public Schools System, and operated as part of that system until 1932 when it became a public two year institution. The school became known as Scotts Bluff County College, followed by another name change in 1968 to Nebraska Western College. In 1973 the state established the Western Technical Community College Area that was comprised of 3 institutions: Nebraska Western College, Western Nebraska Technical College and Alliance School of Practical Nursing. In 1978 the schools were merged into a single entity and in 1988 removed the separate campus names in favor of Western Nebraska Community College.

Academics
Western Nebraska Community College offers comprehensive educational opportunities, including those aimed at transfer and  a large number of career programs. Academic transfer is achieved by completing a predetermined number of credits that qualifies as the first two years of a four year education, making an individual eligible for applying to four year institutions to continue their education. Career training programs are in typically high demand fields and provide the necessary education and training needed for an individual to become a qualified professional and enter the workforce in two years or less.

Programs offered include:

Admissions and Financial Aid
As an open enrollment institution, any individual that provides a completed application for admission, pays all fees, and supplies transcripts and tests scores will be admitted to Western Nebraska Community College as part of its mission to provide higher education opportunities for residents of the state and its service area. Students in need of financial assistance must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the information from which will be used to determine the extent of one's financial needs and their aid program eligibility for grants, loans and certain scholarships.

*Not all of the programs above may be offered
