About
Ocean County College, located in Toms River, New Jersey, was founded in 1969. OCC is a two year institution that serves the community by providing cultural, economic and educational support to the community. Located at two campuses, with smaller satellite location located throughout the Ocean County, the school is able to reach and assist residents with ease. As an institution of higher learning, the school is dedicated to providing the best possible education. To that end, the school is constantly reviewing its educational offerings, ensuring they meet the needs of the community and are up to date. Additionally, facilities and resources are renovated and updated as needed to ensure they remain modern and useful. The school is accredited by New Jersey Higher Education, Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
Academics
Ocean County College offers career and technical training programs, academic programs, and a large number of noncredit courses. Career and technical training programs provide students with the skills and practical experience necessary to successfully enter the workforce at the entry level. Students in such programs will earn a diploma, certificate or associate degree upon graduation and eligible for work immediately thereafter. Academic programs prepare students for transfer to a four year institution by allowing them to complete the freshman and sophomore years at a low cost. Once completed, students may transfer and finish the final two years of their bachelor's degree. Noncredit courses allow individuals to pursue academic or technical interests without attempting to obtain a degree.
Programs offered include:
Admissions and Financial Aid
Students interested in enrollment at Ocean County College must complete the application for admissions and submit it along with all pertinent test scores and transcripts. Students who lack a high school diploma or GED must be at least 18 years of age to apply. Individuals interested in the nursing programs must submit ACT scores as well. As open enrollment institution, students are accepted to the school if they meet the minimum requirements of OCC.
Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants and scholarships. Students in need of financial aid must obtain a federal PIN number followed by completing and submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Once completed, the resulting student aid report will be used to determine need, eligibility and awards. Scholarships from external sources may also be available, often requiring a separate application and awarded for a variety of reasons.
Athletics
Ocean County College participates in intercollegiate athletics through the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 19, as well as the Garden State Athletic Conference which is part of the Community College League of New Jersey. The school encourages athletic programs in order to help create a healthy competitive atmosphere and allow students the opportunity to develop skills and abilities that may be useful in one's academic and professional career. These include teamwork, discipline, social skills, and good health habits, all of which contribute to success. Additionally, athletic provide non-athlete students and faculty to cheer for their school and foster a sense of pride when they win.
