About
Halifax Community College, located in Weldon, North Carolina, Began operation in 1967 as Halifax County Technical Institute. The school remained in its original location for 16 years, at which point it purchased land upon which a new campus was built. The school added a general studies program in 1971, and transfer programs in 1975 at which point it became comprehensive community college. The school changed its name to the current in 1976 and the new campus was formally dedicated in 1977. Since its inception the school has seen growth in enrollment, and as such has maintained a system of upgrade, renovation and addition in order to keep pace with students, technology and community needs.

Academics
As two year community college, HCC offers a variety of programs that result in a career and technical training or academic transfer. Career training programs provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to enter the workforce immediately after graduation as professionals. Such programs result in a certificate or associate degree. Academic transfer programs allow students to complete the first two years of a four year education at low cost, then transfer to a four year institution (particularly public universities and colleges in North Carolina) to complete a bachelor's degree.

Programs offered include:

Admissions and Financial Aid
Students wishing to enroll at Halifax Community College must be a high school graduate or 18 years of age (depending on the program). As an open enrollment institution, students who meet this requirement will be admitted provided they supply transcripts and take a placement exam.

Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants, work study programs and scholarships. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which provides the school with a student aid report used to determine eligibility and awards. Additional information may be requested by the school in order to secure accuracy and assist in the disbursement of funds.
