- DON'T GO TO THIS CRAPPY SCHOOL!!!!!! You won't find a job that will even pay your monthly loan payments. My husband and I went to this school and our loan payments add up to about $900 together a month. We owe Sallie Mae about $70,000 in out standing loans. They promise you that your going to work in a 5 star restaurant but really you are going to work as a bus boy or in a dish pit for 5 years making $9.50 an hour. This school is a huge SCAM!!!!!

- When I found out about TCA in Austin I was 19 years old and had a passion for cooking and a desire to work in a restaurant. Upon contacting the school I was met by an (overly) enthusiastic student adviser (sales person). My student adviser could hardly catch his breath between singing praises for the school and the miracles it had bestowed upon its students. Being 19, naive, and desperate for an education I was sold before I had a chance to think. My student adviser told me that the school would do everything it could to help me find employment while I was attending classes, and even went so far as to say I would, definitely, have a job before leaving school. The lady in charge of assisting students in finding jobs only went so far as to print out the equivalent of a news letter on places that were hiring. Not to mention, to my knowledge, the businesses sent the information to her. In summary she was lazy, uncaring, and clearly over-payed. Now, about the 'teachers'. Most of the 'teachers' I studied under were rude, ill-tempered, and not surprisingly, lazy. If a student had a question it was often met with rolled eyes and exasperation. Followed closely by curt, sarcastic, and often unhelpful responses. Of the eight, or so, chefs I studied under and knew, only one of them took the time to actually try and teach me with a stoic amount of patience. Now, for the matter of loans. I had to take out federal loans as well as a separate loan. I am roughly $50,000 in debt, unemployed, and often have employers laugh in my face if I mention TCA. I've had better responses telling employers I cook dinner at home every night. So in closing, don't go to TCA. A community college will provide you with a reliable culinary education for about $1,500. Texas Culinary Academy Le Cordon Bleu is just a glorified name for arrogant men to swindle money from our government and put well-meaning people into a deep hole of debt so they can drive BMWs.
