About
The Jean Madeline Aveda Institute began as a salon founded by Jean Kirkland and Madeline Brown in Philadelphia over 70 years ago. The salons they ran become renown, and in 1987 the Jean Madeline Center for Cosmetology opened. Currently the Jean Madeline Aveda Institute operates three campuses in Philadelphia and continues to impart its world renown techniques, styles and innovations to aspiring cosmetologists.
Academics
The Jean Madeline Aveda Institute offers four programs. The institute provides a quality education that focuses on developing both professional and entrepreneurial skills. The programs are of varying length and provide a certificate upon completion. Additionally the school offers a week long Beauty Camp for teenagers.

The teacher's program is for those already in the industry who wish to become teachers within the beauty field.
Admissions and Financial Aid
Students interested in enrolling at the Jean Madeline Aveda Institute can complete the online information request form to begin the process. Additionally, financial aid is available to students who qualify. Eligibility is determined by the Student Aid Report (SAR) which is issued after the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is completed and submitted.

Flag Review - Rating:
- I was in the esthetician program at the South Philly location. Although this school will teach you the basics, it would be beneficial to extend the program or spend more time reviewing text book material to truly make sure the students understand the skin. It seems that the main goal at JM is to get as many clients in as possible to make money. The supplies which are supplied by the school are ALWAYS low or completely gone! For example, distilled water for steamers, disposable gloves and small cups, wax sticks, trash bags, quats (which is a hospital grade sanitizer necessary for disinfecting comedone extractors, tweezers, etc..) and all of the basic cleansers/lotions which should be on the cart in spa room. So basically, you use all of your own supplies which you purchase in your kit on all of the clients who come in. And you are required to bring in "paying" clients to practice on as part of a grade. The reality is, you pay tuition and buy your own supplies and the school makes pure profit off of it's students. I did have a lot of practice and felt confident getting a job, but the bottom line is: I feel used!
