History
The Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) was founded in 1997 as part of the Claremont Colleges. The Claremont Colleges formed in 1925 with a mission to expand and provide new educational opportunities as needs were identified. KGI was proposed by Dr. Henry G Riggs when he identified a need for scientists and engineers who were capable of taking scientific discoveries and turn them into practical applications. Located in Claremont, California, KGI is the most recent of the seven Claremont Colleges.
Academics
KGI offers masters and doctoral level degrees that combine science and business. The programs offered are unique to KGI and career oriented. The Master's of Science program offers a blend of managerial and scientific study. The Post-Doctoral Professional Master's Program offers PhDs with a background in science to obtain a master's degree in business and finance. The Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medical Certificate program prepares individuals for medical school. Students who are missing some of the prerequisite courses for the PPC may be able to fulfill those requirements through one of the other Claremont Colleges. Additionally, KGI offers PhD programs in applied life science and computational and systems biology.
