Sign Language Degree

The sign language degree program at Berkeley City College is designed to prepare students to study American Sign Language as a method of communication in the deaf community. Students seeking a sign language degree may pursue a career in teaching sign language, as well as American Sign Language translation, on a private or public scale. Courses include instruction in the development of ASL, ASL morphology and syntax, signing technique, English translation of ASL, formal and colloquial ASL, and ASL transcription. Berkeley City College is one of the best community colleges in the United States and is located near the University of California, Berkeley. The college offers training courses that provide occupational training.BCC students can complete lower-division requirements in evening and Saturday classes on the U.C. Berkeley campus.
