Delaware Technical Community College was founded in 1967 by Dr. Paul K. Weatherly. The school is Delaware's community college system, and was formed with the approval of the Delaware General Assembly. The school currently operates four campuses which were added between 1972 and 1974. The school is an open-admission two year institution committed to the success of residents of Delaware. The school is fully accredited by the Commission of Higher Education, Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

New Castle County has two campuses to serve the community located in the cities of Stanton and Wilmington. The campuses encourage diversity and growth by providing the community educational opportunities, as well as services and events to encourage cultural development.

Academics

Delaware Technical Community College offers a number of programs that provide students with technical and career training or academic advancement. Technical and career training provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to enter the workforce as professionals. Academic programs allow students to complete the first two years of a four year education at low cost, allowing for transfer to a four year institution upon completion. Delaware Tech has agreements in place with over 60 colleges, assisting in the transfer process assuming certain requirements are met.

Admissions and Financial Aid

As an open-enrollment institution, Delaware Technical Community College allows students to enroll as long as they complete the application process. As a large college, it is advisable for students to enroll early in order to register for desired classes. Students should meet with an advisor in order to discuss and plan their education. Students must also take a placement exam and provide proof of residency in Delaware. Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants and work study programs. Eligibility and awards are determined through a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which should be submitted as early as possible.

Athletics

Athletic programs are offered at all campuses in the Delaware Technical Community College System. These program provide a healthy competitive atmosphere in a structured environment. Athletic programs also assist in the development of important skills. These skills include teamwork, discipline, and good health. Each campus offers its own programs.
