Medical Assisting

Medical Assisting is a great program for people interested in providing care and comfort to those with medical needs. Unitek College’s 9-month Medical Assisting program offers an active learning environment with an emphasis on practicing real clinical skills. Our program covers medical terminology, medical front office procedures, medical/clinical procedures, basic anatomy and physiology, and special Medical Assisting duties.

Our knowledgeable teachers and hands-on training methods create a low-pressure setting where you can learn and grow in pursuit of your new career as a Medical Assistant.

All students complete an externship, which provides practical experience in a physicians' office, hospital, or other healthcare facility. Emphasis is placed on communication, critical thinking, human relations, decision making, and other skills required of well-qualified medical personnel.

Pharmacy Technician

Unitek College’s Pharmacy Technician program blends traditional lectures and hands-on laboratory exercises to best prepare future Pharmacy Technicians for success in the workforce. Our 9-month Pharmacy Technician program prepares students to perform tasks related to receiving, dispensing, distribution, control, maintenance, compounding, manufacturing, packaging and labeling of pharmaceutical products.

The right prescription can make a world of difference to patients struggling with infections or chronic illnesses. If you’re interested in helping people by correctly preparing and dispensing prescription medications, a career as a Pharmacy Technician may be right for you. Pharmacy Technicians are employed in a variety of settings, including: hospitals, pharmacies, clinics, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and pharmaceutical companies.

Our knowledgeable teachers and hands-on training methods create a pressure-free setting where you can learn and grow in pursuit of your new career as a Pharmacy Technician. In addition, all students complete an externship, which provides practical experience in a real pharmacy setting.

Dental Assisting

Unitek College's Dental Assisting program is a good fit for students that love working with their hands. This program is designed to prepare students with the knowledge, technical skills, and work habits of a Dental Assistant, focusing on the treatment-room care of dental patients.

Unitek College provides a strong foundation in the skills and experience needed to succeed in a career as a Dental Assistant, combining in-class instruction with hands-on lab skills experience. Externships provide a hands-on opportunity to put the skills learned in the classroom into practice.

Courses cover all aspects of dental assisting and include infection control and sterilization techniques, how to handle medical emergencies, the correct procedure for taking dental X-rays and making impressions, and the use of various dental instruments. Topics covered in the program also include oral evacuation, fixed prosthodontics, pharmacology and pain control, preventative dentistry, how to assist with oral surgery, and tray setups.

Vocational Nursing

Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs), sometimes called Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), provide direct medical care to patients under the direction of doctors and registered nurses. LVNs often have more contact with patients than any other member of the healthcare team. If you’re a compassionate person interested in helping others as a nurse, Vocational Nursing training could put you on the path to a rewarding career.

Unitek College offers certificate and associate degree programs in Vocational Nursing. Our intensive 11 month Vocational Nursing Certificate Program covers clinical and theory components to prepare graduates to take the NCLEX-PN licensing exam, and work as a generalist Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). All Unitek College pre-licensure Vocational Nursing students complete clinical rotations at a healthcare facility as a part of their curriculum.

Educational objectives include: collaborating effectively with clients, families, and health care teams to provide holistic care; assisting in the formulation of a problem-solving approach to deliver basic nursing care to clients; and coordinating patient care with other members of a health care team within the standards of practice.
