Acadiana Technical College, located in Lafayette, Louisiana, is part of a system of schools that began operation in 1930. Originally known as trade schools, the system evolved into higher education training for specific fields as demand grew for the type of technical education offered by the system. The system provides training opportunities in a number of fields, assisting residents throughout the state of Louisiana in achieving personal and professional success. The Acadiana campuses serve over four thousand students a year, ensuring their academic and practical training needs are met through updated and modern facilities, with the Lafayette campus serving approximately a quarter of total enrollment. The school is dedicated to providing the best opportunities for its students, providing a quality education to ensure employment opportunities post-graduation.

Acadiana Technical College offers 75 programs of study in 15 different fields that provide  career training opportunities for individuals looking to expand their skill set and find work in a given area. Most programs will take between one and two years to complete and result in an associate degree, diploma or career certificate. Career training programs provide education and training in a given field, allowing one to develop the skills and abilities necessary to perform as a professional in the workplace. Students will participate in practical courses along with traditional classroom courses (which may be used for transfer credits if needed), allowing for practical development and experience that is beneficial for both seeking work and in the workplace. Upon completion the student's degree or certificate will demonstrate competence through study and allow for the immediate pursuit of employment. Most programs offered reflect community needs, resulting in more job availability for individuals seeking work locally.

As an open enrollment institution, Acadiana Technical College allows any student who meets the minimum standards for admission to enroll after submitting a completed application for admission. Students should provide all relevant academic information, including transcripts, test scores, or alternate degrees such as a GED. Students should also participate in orientation and meet with a counselor to determine which program best suits the student's needs. Students may also be required to take a placement exam for general education courses.

Financial aid is available in the form of loans and grants. Students in need of financial assistance must complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the resulting information from which will be used to determine the student's financial needs, aid program eligibility and monetary awards.
