Laney College

Laney College, located in Oakland, California, was established in 1953. The school is one of four community colleges that comprise the Peralta Community College District which serves northern Alameda County. Of these schools, Laney is the largest, enrolling over 12,000 dollars per year. The school is located near the Lake Merritt Bart, allowing access to the school from a variety of locations throughout the Bay Area. The school offers a variety of services and facilities, allowing students to explore a variety of academic and extracurricular opportunities. The school is an active member of the community, assisting in social, cultural, and economic development assistance, including the adoption and implementation of new programs to better reflect the needs of the community. Laney College is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Academics

Laney College offers technical and career or academic programs resulting in associate degrees or certificates. Technical and career programs provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to enter the workforce immediately after graduation. These students will learn to operate as professionals, having earned practical experience alongside their classroom education. Admissions and Financial Aid

As a public two year institution Laney College utilizes an open enrollment policy in regards to admissions, where any high school graduate or GED holder may enroll. In conjunction with their application, students should supply all pertinent documents and transcripts and are required to take a placement exam. Financial aid is available in the form of loans and grants. Students in need of aid should complete and submit a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to determine eligibility and awards. The financial aid office is open to students in need of assistance, including help with application process and possible scholarships. Each scholarship may require a separate application and require certain criterion in order to be considered. Awards are distributed based on the scholarships mission, often for reason other than need.
