Covenant School of Nursing began in 1918 as the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. Nursing candidates in CSON programs get real clinical experience from the 20 facilities of the Covenant Health System in the Lubbock Area. The school is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and the Texas Board of Nursing. In addition, CSON (Covenant School of Nursing) holds a membership in the Council of Diploma Programs of the National League for Nursing. Covenant
The school offers nursing educational opportunities at many levels. The core program is a 72 week curriculum leading to a diploma and eligibility for the Registered Nurse (RN) licensing examination. CSON also has an advanced credit program allowing Licensed Vocational and Practical Nurses to earn their RN. Finally, the school now has a partnership arrangement with Lubbock Christian University allowing graduates of the CSON nursing diploma program to continue on at LCU to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
From 2007 through 2011 the pass rates of CSON diplomates in nursing taking the National Council Licensure Examination – Registered Nurse (NCLEX—RN) exceeded 88% every year, with a high of 95% in 2010 and a low of 88% in 2011. The employment rates for CSON December graduates reached a high of 96.6% in 2010 with May graduates in that year achieving an 86% employment rate. In 2011 90% of May graduates found employment.
