University of Maryland – University College (UMUC)

The University of Maryland - University College (UMUC) was founded in 1947.  It has many timely and cutting-edge programs that reflect global change. UMUC is headquartered in Adelphi, Maryland, but offers classes in other locations such as Washington, D.C., Europe and Asia.  Its online courses are offered to students worldwide allowing for distance and accelerated learning from anywhere.  In fact, UMUC is a world leader in online education.

UMUC enrolls many active duty military personnel, reserves, dependents and veterans. It offers courses at more than 130 military installations around the world.

Through the "UMUC 411" program students can "test-drive" classes online by navigating class discussions with tabbed browsing, using advanced text editing features to communicate, and sending private messages to professors and classmates.

Academics

UMUC has two academic terms, spring (running from mid-January through mid-May) and summer (running from mid-May through late August or early-September for some MBA programs).  There are no classes in October, November or December.

UMUC offers both undergraduate and graduate programs.  Students may choose from more than 100 programs offering bachelor's degrees and minors, undergraduate certificates, master's degrees and specializations, doctoral degrees and graduate certificates. Many timely industries are represented in UMUC programs including management, information technology, homeland security and more. Courses are offered daily, on evenings and weekends, online or in a format that offers both on-site and online study courses.
