About
University of California San Francisco, located in San Francisco, California, was founded in 1873 through the merger of the Toland Medical School with Cooper Medical College. The school became part of the University of California System of Schools through a transfer of control by the trustees. The school is one of ten that comprise the UC system, and it is the only school in that system dedicated specifically to graduate education. In addition to medical education, the school also functions as a medical center and hospital.
Academics
UCSF is a graduate level institution dedicated to medical and biological sciences. Individuals applying to or enrolled at UCSF must have completed a bachelor's degree in an appropriate undergraduate field to be considered. for admission. The schools primary focus is medicine, though individuals may choose to related fields such as biomedical sciences, sociology and medical anthropology. The school also works closely with another San Francisco based UC School, Hastings School of Law, offering courses in health policy and law.

Admissions and Financial Aid
As a graduate institution, UCSF requires students to have earned a minimum of a bachelor's degree to be considered for admission. A strong academic record, and MCAT or GRE scores are also considered when choosing applicants. As a graduate institution, enrollment is limited, particularly as the hospital portion of the school is considered among the 10 best in the nation.
