The college district serves the inland empire of Western San Bernardino County. The cities served include Chino, Chino Hills, Fontana, Montclair, Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga, and Upland, among others.
Chaffey College offers academic and occupational programs to the local community via its three campuses and online education program. Chaffey College has been recognized for its outstanding vocational and technology programs, which include nursing, automotive technology, hotel and food service, and aeronautics, among others.
History
Chaffey College was founded in 1883 as a private college. The college was established by brothers George and William Chaffey as the Chaffey College School of Agriculture. Their aim was to establish a local college that would bring quality education to the citrus growing families of the Upland and Ontario areas. In 1916, it was accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and began receiving public funding.
From the early days, Chaffey College was known for its fine athletics department. Chaffey beat USC for the first championship of intercollegiate football in Southern California in 1893.
In 1970, the Board of Trustees became the Chaffey Community College District. In 1990, the college opened its first educational center in the community, in Ontario. A second educational center opened in Fontana in 1999. In 2000, The Chaffey College Chino Center was opened. Its Chino Information Technology Center opened in 2002. In 2007, the college opened its Ralph M. Lewis Center.
