About
Coastline Community College, located in Fountain Valley, California, was founded in 1976 with the intention of providing distance learning options for residents within the Coast Community College District. The school is one of 112 that comprise the California Community College System, which operates two year institutions throughout the state and is the largest such system in terms of size, number of schools and enrollment in the United States. The school serves the cities of Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Westminster, Huntington Beach, Garden Grove, Seal Beach and Fountain Valley. The school is primarily a distance learning institution, but offers on site courses through three mini campuses located in Costa Mesa, Garden Grove and Westminster, with full programs through campuses offered by the school's sister colleges, Orange Coast College and Golden West College.
Academics
Coastline Community College offers distance learning options and was the first institution to provide a complete program that could be complete through the use of a Pocket PC. Today programs are accessible through various means, including tablets, computers, and cell phones. Individuals may choose the type of program they will pursue, be it for academic transfer or career training. Academic transfer programs allow students to pursue a bachelor's degree by first completing the first two years of that education at the community college. Once completed, students will apply for transfer to a college or university to continue their education. Transfer to a University of California or California State University system school is made easier through agreements in place that guarantee admission if certain requirements are met.
Career training programs allow students to receive an education in a specific field or industry with the intention of seeking employment upon completion of the program. Given that's some programs require hands on training for specific skills, individuals may be required to attend classes at one of the three physical locations in order to complete their education. A programs can take between one and two years to complete, and results in a degree or certificate upon completion.
Programs offered include:
Admissions and Financial Aid
Individuals interested in enrollment at Coastline Community College must submit a completed application and pay all associated fees. The school is an open enrollment institution, and as such admits any student eighteen years of age or older, students who have completed high school or equivalent, and students that have completed tenth grade and received permission from their principal. Students are asked to provide transcripts and test scores if available, and may be required to take a placement exam prior to registration. Students are also encouraged to meet with a counselor to discuss enrollment options.
Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants and scholarships. Aid is awarded based on need which is determined by the school through the use of information provided by the student in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Once the extent of need is determined the school will see which programs the student qualifies for and construct an aid packet that allows the student affordable access to education. Aid must be reapplied for prior to each academic year and forms should be submitted early to ensure funds are disbursed in a timely manner.
