San Joaquin Delta College ("Delta College" or SJDC) is two-year community college located in Stockton, California. Delta College offers associate degrees, professional certificates, and college transfer programs for students planning to complete their bachelor's degrees at four-year institutions.
Delta College has a partnership with the University of the Pacific, and together the two institutions are able to offer students four-year educational opportunities, as well as graduate studies. Delta College also has a cooperative partnership with California State University, Stanislaus.
History
San Joaquin Delta College was founded in 1934 as College of the Pacific Junior College. In the beginning, courses were listed in the College of the Pacific catalog and there were 73 students enrolled. A more formal partnership was established with College of the Pacific in 1935. Under the jurisdiction of the Stockton Board of Education, instructors from College of the Pacific taught junior college students at "Stockton Junior College. The two colleges shared facilities through WWII.
In 1948, Stockton Junior College changed its name to Stockton College. Classes were moved to a 43-acre campus south of College of the Pacific. In 1963, the junior college separated from the Stockton Unified School District and began to serve all of San Joaquin County and parts of three neighboring counties. The Delta College District developed from that point, and the name of college changed its name again to San Joaquin Delta College. The partnership between University of the Pacific and Delta College has continued throughout its history.
